The following text I wrote originally as an comment in a forum. I share it here but a little remodelled as it was a reply to something…
We listened to Alain de Botton’s TED talk yesterday and it was refreshing ‘n’ fun. It was due to that I felt inspired to get into the ideas of a new movement that is being born under the slogan “God does not exist, and Alain de Botton is his prophet.” Alain de Botton call for in his talk just a movement like this and suggests for example to look at the religions how they bring people together and take some of their rituals as a one of the joining forces.
I’ve dived in and out in different spiritual practices, still after all what I experimented with merely feeling submitted to LOVE. I have never seen angels, ufos and I don’t believe in God or gods. But I do think that it’s guiding principal we might need some assistance in life and this was Alain de Botton discussing in his TED talk. If we don’t get the support from our home or at school, work or society, where do we turn? It’s like religion has the monopoly on morality and spiritual matters.
There is absolutely time for the new human kind on the planet and the one who doesn’t just love it’s own species. Instead of consumerism as religion there is other values to be cherished and face it: everyone more or less just want to belong and be loved. The dance scene as I have been and still is a part of gives the feeling of oneness. To CELEBRATE LIFE through dancing TOGETHER, a pretty good way to spend as much of one’s lifetime as possible I feel;)
The experience is like you are alone but on a dance floor, dancing your own personal dance, doing your thing and everyone else is doing the same, alone but together in an ocean of creative-personal-expression-movement-explosion. Being both the observer and the creator, an important part of something greater – coherence, sharing space/time, love.
Also the necessity to re-member THE nothingness… the centre point, pure silence. Zero. How that absolutely-not-knowing(ness) is at the same time SO reliably always there when turning INSIDE towards it. That what brings us together that which everyone can discover and be free. All since the beginning we are being tricked away with entertainment and the pressure of “becoming”. When there is essential to be fine with and to appreciate nothingness. The constant feeding with information and that “something has to happen” and “I have to be somebody”. No wonder so many can’t stand being alone and their own emptiness. Hey, it’s a natural state!
“Oh, I’ve achieved this and that, I’ve got everything and still feel empty.” Very well, be with peace with it. It just IS. It’s up to each and everyone what ever one’s wanna do and fill this life with. For me the greatest liberation and life lesson is to rest at the source, to flow in the great nothingness, enjoy the silence, sunya, the void…
I am pro ceremony and rituals, think it is something that shouldn’t just belong to religions. Personally me willingly I’d love to see more of celebration at the equinoxes as they are actual happenings in nature that we are a part of. To align with nature makes one feel more at home, instead to fight with it. Also to know the cardinal directions at all time gives a sense of centre. But what do I know, might just be another pagan hedonist at heart;)
